Rest Haven Transformation Project – Phase 1

Rest Haven Primary School, located in Goromonzi District, Zimbabwe, has been serving its community for over 40 years. With more than 700 learners enrolled, the school plays a vital role in shaping the future of children from largely rural and low-income families. Despite limited resources, Rest Haven has strived to deliver quality education, with students achieving a 72% pass rate in 2024.

However, in 2024 the school faced the devastating prospect of being shut down by November 7 due to its dilapidated and unsafe classrooms. This crisis underscored the urgent need for intervention to ensure that hundreds of children would not be denied their right to education.

The Rest Haven Transformation Project is an ambitious, multi-phased initiative designed to uplift the school and provide a safe, inspiring learning environment. While the long-term vision focuses on building new classrooms, improving infrastructure, and creating income-generating opportunities, our immediate priority is addressing the most pressing challenges that directly affect the children’s daily well-being and education.

Overview

Addressing Immediate Needs

Phase 1 focuses on creating a healthier, safer, and more supportive learning environment by tackling the school’s most urgent requirements. Together, these priorities make up our $10,000 fundraising goal:

Improved Access to Water – $2,300
Clean and reliable water is essential for both health and learning. This investment will improve access to safe water sources, ensuring learners and teachers have the basic necessity of clean water every day.

Provision of Textbooks – $3,700
Currently, learners share textbooks at a ratio of 8:1. By providing additional textbooks, we will make learning more effective, reduce classroom strain, and give every child a fair opportunity to excel.

Plumbing Tools and Supplies – $3,000
The school’s toilets are in disrepair, affecting sanitation and hygiene. Supplying the necessary plumbing equipment will enable the completion of new toilets, providing learners with a safe and dignified environment.

Temporary Tent Shelter – $1,000
Many learners currently study without proper classrooms. A large tent will provide safe shelter during the rainy season, ensuring that education continues without disruption.

Why Phase 1 Matters

Before building towards long-term transformation, we must secure the foundation of a safe and functional school environment. Phase 1 ensures that learners can focus on learning in a healthier, more dignified setting, while laying the groundwork for future development.

We endeavour to raise the full amount required to support all core priorities. However, if the full target is not reached, every contribution will be allocated and utilised appropriately toward specific goals. Each donation meaningfully advances us toward creating a better learning environment, and donors will be kept informed of progress achieved, particularly upon the completion of Phase 1.
